L.E. Myers completed work on numerous elements of CapX2020, a joint initiative by 11 transmission-owning utilities in Minnesota and the surrounding region, and the largest development of new transmission in the upper Midwest in more than 30 years. Built in phases, the new transmission lines were designed to meet the region’s increasing power demand and support renewable energy growth.
L.E. Myers crews completed five segments within the planned 800 miles of CapX2020, including:
- 74-mile Alexandria to St. Cloud segment of Xcel Energy’s Fargo-St. Cloud 345kV project (2013).
- Three segments totaling 129 miles of Great River Energy’s Brookings County-Hampton 345kV project (2014).
- Seventy-four of the 105 steel monopole structures between the Chub Lake and Hampton substations for the Brookings County-Hampton project (2014)
- Segments of Xcel Energy’s Hampton-Rochester-La Crosse 345/161 kV project (2016)
