L.E. Myers completed work in 2020 on the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) pilot project, the second offshore wind project in the United States and the first of its kind to be installed in federal waters. Crews built and installed the required onshore electrical interconnection facilities. This facility connects the offshore turbines to an onshore substation, where the power provided by the turbines is then converted for use.
As the prime contractor for the two-year engineering-procurement-construction (EPC) project, MYR Energy also oversaw the engineering and procurement of the interconnection facility and other onshore components, including detailed design, supply coordination, construction management, and post-installation commissioning.
Client Dominion Energy considers CVOW critical to the development of offshore wind farms in the U.S. The company expects the project, once fully constructed in 2026, will generate enough clean, sustainable energy to power up to 660,000 homes at peak and avoid as much as five million tons of carbon dioxide annually.
